The 39th Madeira Music Festival takes place from March 7th to 28th, in various emblematic cultural spaces, in an edition that will feature 10 concerts, involving 191 nationally and internationally renowned artists, with unique proposals that will surely enchant the public.
The festival is the responsibility of ANSA – Associação Notas e Sinfonias Atlânticas, the managing entity of the Madeira Classical Orchestra, under the Artistic Direction of Norberto Gomes.
Eight free masterclasses are also planned for young instrumentalists from the Madeira Conservatory – School of Arts, and a lecture on the opera film ‘The Faun of the Mountains’.

The “Biosfera Roller Skate” is an international speed skating tournament that takes place over two days on the beautiful 200-meter track located at the mouth of the Faial-Santana river.

The 39th Madeira Music Festival presents, on March 13th at 9:00 PM, at MUDAS – Madeira Museum of Contemporary Art, "The Faun of the Mountains," a unique opera-film, in a special session marking the 100th anniversary of its premiere.

On March 14th, the golden island hosts another edition of the Porto Santo Half Marathon, an event that promises to challenge athletes on 21 km and 10 km courses.
Organized by the Madeira Athletics Association (AARAM), this competition takes place between 8:30 am and 1:30 pm, in two modalities: a 10 km distance (mini), a race for the under-20, under-23, senior and veteran categories, and another 21 km race (half marathon), a race for the under-23, senior and veteran categories.

The Madeira Roller Marathon includes 100-meter sprint races and four marathons: the 800-meter 'Nano Marathon', the 2 km 'Micro Marathon', the 12.8 km 'Mini Marathon', and the main event, the 'Marathon', consisting of a 42.195 km course.
This speed skating event is part of the World Inline Cup circuit and is also an integral part of the Madeira Roller Mega Tournament, which includes two more Madroller competitions, the Calheta Biosfera and the Biosfera Roller Skate, events that usually bring more than two hundred athletes from various countries to the region.

Avenida Arriaga will be the centre stage of the annual Book Fair, a cultural event which will involve most of Madeira's bookshops and some Portuguese publishing houses.
This initiative is being run by Funchal Municipal Council and includes a diverse range of activities, from conferences, book launches, concerts and exhibitions which will take place in the Auditorium of the Municipal Garden and Baltazar Dias Municipal Theatre, taking place between May 24th and June 2nd.

The 39th Madeira Music Festival presents the Busch Trio at 9:00 PM in the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of Madeira, in a concert dedicated to the chamber music of Ludwig van Beethoven, a central figure in the transition between Classicism and Romanticism.

The 39th Madeira Music Festival presents the MAAT – Saxophone Quartet, in a concert celebrating the versatility and expressive richness of the saxophone quartet, in a journey that spans centuries, styles and musical languages.

The 39th Madeira Music Festival presents a piano recital on March 22nd at 6 PM in the Regional Legislative Assembly, featuring pianist Rafael Kyrychenko, a prominent performer of the new generation and winner of several international awards

On March 27th, come to the Chocolate Market, an experience dedicated to Madeira's artisanal chocolate, inspired by the Farmers' Market. From 3 pm to 7 pm, you can taste different varieties of chocolate with varying percentages of cocoa.

The 39th Madeira Music Festival presents, on March 27th at 9 pm, at the Church of St. John the Evangelist (College), one of the most remarkable moments in choral-symphonic music: the Requiem in D minor, by Gabriel Fauré.

The Madeira Conservatory – School of Arts, Eng.º Luiz Peter Clode, resumes the Concert Cycle for the year 2026, which will take place throughout the months of February and March.
This cycle features a series of performances by students from the Professional Instrumentalist, Jazz Instrumentalist and Specialized Artistic Education Courses, reflecting the talent and commitment of the institution's young musicians.
The concerts will take place at 8:30 pm in the Conservatory's Main Hall, presenting diverse musical programs open to the public.

The Regional Sugarcane and Sugarcane Derivatives Fair will take place on March 28th and 29th in the parish of Canhas, in Ponta do Sol.
This event is co-organized by the Casa do Povo da Ponta do Sol and the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development, and its main objective is to promote the work of farmers and the community involved in sugarcane cultivation.
The epicenter of this lively celebration is Rua do Serrado, next to the Santa Teresinha Urbanization, in the parish of Canhas. Here, lively music will accompany the typical food and drink stalls, contributing to a fun and festive atmosphere.

The initiative born in 2007 in Sydney, Australia, will be once again organized in Funchal on 30th March.
The “Planet Night Run” is a competition organized by the Athletics Association of Madeira and shall be carried out within the scope of “Earth Hour 2019”, a symbolic action of environmental protection in which the artificial lights are turned off for an hour. On the last eight consecutive years, hundred of millions of individuals joined in initiative throughout the world and, in 2014, it was carried out in 160 countries and more than 7.000 cities.

From March 29th to April 4th, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM, the Mercado dos Lavradores hosts the 11th edition of the Chocolate Market. Participating companies will be present on the third floor of this iconic Madeiran space, offering various activities

The IVBAM, holds the 3rd edition of the Madeira Rum Festival in Largo da Restauração, in an initiative aimed at the general public, from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
This festival will be held from 25th to 28th April with the presence of several producers of Rum from Madeira and will be a unique opportunity for Madeira and tourists to know and appreciate this noble product that has been growing in terms of quantity and quality in recent years .
In addition to the tasting of the Agricultural Rum of Madeira, there will be a bet on a didactic and interactive aspect, with the realization of Masterclasses of Rum from Madeira, guided by sommelier Américo Pereira and cocktails with Rum

'Viva Cidade' is an urban music and theatrical performance festival that, over three days, presents diverse sounds on various stages scattered throughout the small squares and streets of the archipelago's capital.
There are countless concerts that begin in the afternoon and continue until the end of the day, in an atmosphere that welcomes the longer days of spring.
To accompany the good music, the terraces are filled with the best traditional snacks and drinks.
The program will be distributed across three time slots: 12:00, 17:00 and 21:00, and will take place in five central locations in Funchal: Rua da Carreira, Sé Catedral, Largo do Chafariz, Praça Amarela and Praça do Carmo.

The Praça do Povo (People's Square) once again hosts EXPOTROPICAL – the Subtropical Fruits and Flavors Fair. This initiative, carried out by the Casa do Povo de Santa Maria Maior in partnership with the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Rural Development, aims to promote the subtropical fruits and flavors of Madeira and also includes entertainment through musical concerts. This initiative also has a charitable aspect, with its proceeds going to support the most needy families in the parish.

The Clube de Montanha do Funchal annually promotes the MIUT (Madeira Island Ultra Trail) a mountain race that offers its participants with a unique experience crossing the island highest peaks/mountains, taking plece on April,27th 2019.
The 2018 edition had a total of 2500 participants and 45 diferent nationalities, congregating some of the main national and international athletes of reference in this area.
This competition covers the areas of Porto Moniz and Machico crossing the island's best tracks, including the central massif - Encumeada - Ruivo Peak (1861 m) - Areeiro Peak –, in a very challenging circuit of about 115 km.

With one of the most breathtaking views over Funchal Bay, the Palheiro Golf Course will, for the fifth time, be the privileged setting for the Palheiro Gardens Golf Classic, a golf competition held as part of the Flower Festival.
This event attracts around one hundred participants from destinations such as the United Kingdom, Germany, Slovenia, Finland, Denmark, Russia, Canada and France, for a weekend that combines three unique elements: the lush gardens surrounding the course, the golf itself and, of course, the unmistakable Madeira Wine.
Experience the elegance of this gathering that celebrates the passion for golf in perfect harmony with nature and the authentic flavors of the region.

Symbolic construction of the Wall of Hope. On Saturday mornings, children are invited to place a flower on the "Wall of Hope," in a symbolic appeal for peace. Accompanied by their families, the children carry their flower, usually picked from their own backyards, to fulfill this tradition that dates back to 1979, and whose purpose is increasingly relevant today.

This Enduro race combines an adventure in Madeira with the best of mountain biking!!
In the “Bike Camp Experience,” athletes camp in a different location every day, in places of spectacular beauty.
In TransMadeira, the goal is to cover approximately 200 km of trails, with various types of terrain, in the shortest time possible.
It takes place from May 18th to 23rd and from September 28th to October 3rd, in two unprecedented editions, and covers the island from Machico (east) to Calheta (west).

On this day the museums are free, and it is possible to visit their exhibitions and works and participate in initiatives prepared exclusively for this commemorative day. The opening hours are also extended so that more visitors have the opportunity to visit the museums.
Some of the museums of the Region adhere to the “European Museums Night”, one of the most popular and anticipated initiatives, allowing visitors to enjoy the institutions' cultural offerings in an unique timetable.

This initiative, taking place in Praça do Povo between May 22nd and 24th, is organized by the Madeira Classic Car Club with the purpose of showcasing and awarding the best and most elegant vintage and classic vehicles in the region.
The Madeira Classic Car Revival contributes to the dissemination of the diversity and historical richness of this vast automotive collection, in a lively atmosphere created for the occasion, delighting automotive enthusiasts worldwide.

The Onion Festival is the best known festival in the city of Caniço, in the district of Santa Cruz. Its main attractions are the parade and auction on the theme of this agricultural product.

On May 23rd and 24th, Madeira will host the MIUS – Madeira Island Ultra Swim, one of the most emblematic open water swimming events, integrated into the XVIII National Open Water Circuit. The competition is organized by the Madeira Swimming Association (ANM), in partnership with the Portuguese Swimming Federation (FPN).
The MIUS – Madeira Island Ultra Swim® is a sea swimming race, in the open water discipline, counting towards the National Circuit of the Portuguese Swimming Federation, which will have six distances (10k; 7.5k; 5k; 3.5k; 1.5k and 0.5k), from Cabo Girão to Funchal.
This event contributes to the dynamism and diversification of the tourism offer and is already a nautical event

The program for this festival also includes a range of initiatives including tasting workshops and discussions, music and dance, fishing and crafts, photography exhibitions, urban art and comedy shows, an event taking place between June 3th and 6th.
The Tuna Route Festival is an event promoted by Vila Baleira Resort with the support of the Regional Secretariat for Agriculture and Fisheries, the Regional Secretariat for Tourism and Culture, and the Madeira Promotion Association.

The Regional Bread Fair is an event organised by the Funchal Lions Club for over 20 years and will take place at Avenida Arriaga central walkways, with the purpose of raising funds for the club’s charity works.
This event includes various performances by folk groups, a set of shows that will take place during the mornings and afternoons.

Machico will host the 14th edition of the 16th-century Market", an event that evokes the historical period of the discovery of the island, which has gained a prominent cultural status.
Organized by the Municipal Council of Machico and in partnership with the Elementary and Secondary Schools of Machico, this initiative takes place in Machico´s downtown at Largo da Praça, in Alameda Dr. José António de Almada, and offers a number of cultural and musical activities, held between the 7th and 9th of June.

The Madeira Atlantic Festival, an event that sets the beginning of the summer season in Madeira, is one of the most recent tourist entertainment events.
This event consists of a diverse set of initiatives spread throughout the month of June, with emphasis on the pyromusical shows; the Atlantic Roots Festival and the Regional Arts Week.

The Ultra Sky Marathon is a very demanding and technical competition that involves running in the mountains facing very unlevelled terrain.
Between mountain and cliff climbing, this race goes through places where geo and biodiversity are hand in hand with competition. Santana (municipality in the north coast) is the perfect setting with its breathtaking trails.

The Ultra Skyrunning Madeira is a highly technical race, held on mountainous terrain with steep inclines. Part of the most challenging aspect of skyrunning, this competition is rooted in overcoming obstacles in extreme natural environments—crossing mountains, forests, and coastal cliffs.
The course unfolds through locations where biodiversity and geodiversity coexist alongside the competitive spirit, offering athletes a unique experience.

In Madeira, a bowl of hot soup is highly appreciated, and the robust and hearty country soups are among the top preferences of the Madeirans.
With the aim of sharing some of the secrets behind these soups, the Casa do Povo da Boaventura, a parish in the municipality of São Vicente, decided to create the Country Soup Fair.
Thus, on June 13th and 14th, all lovers of genuine flavors are invited to head to the north coast of Madeira and taste, for example, Caldo da Romaria (a traditional Madeiran soup), Açorda Madeirense (a traditional Madeiran bread soup), and soups made with onion, wheat, watercress, and flaked corn.

Madeira will take part in the celebrations of the “Global Wellness Day” movement, an event held at the Almirante Reis Gardens, on June 8th.
Promoted by the Nova Era Association, this event will offer an interesting ensemble of therapeutic activities, such as meditation and dance, an occasion that intends to promote the importance of the balance between body, mind and spirit amongst participants.
Launched in Turkey in 2012, Global Wellness Day 2018 is featured in over 50 countries, all with a common aim: to raise general public awareness of the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and to encourage good eating, sport and well-being practices.

The Madeira Underwater Open returns to the region from June 22nd to 28th, inviting the world to discover Madeira beneath the surface. An international event celebrating the unique beauty of the ocean, revealing the archipelago's extraordinary underwater potential and remarkable marine biodiversity.
With crystal-clear waters of exceptional visibility, stunning underwater scenery, and a rich and vibrant marine fauna, Madeira establishes itself as a true paradise for scuba diving, attracting athletes, photographers, and sea enthusiasts from all continents.

This is the biggest Summer festival in the archipelago with a set of extreme variety of music styles – hip-hop, soul, funk, rock, rap, reggae and so much more.
An authentic tribute to the sun and the good vibes. Santa Catarina Park, in the heart of Funchal, is the perfect scenery for this celebration.

For several decades, the "24 Hours of Dancing" folklore festival has welcomed various folk groups from the island and the entire country to the city of Santana.
Thousands of emigrants mark their annual returns for this time, where ethnography is felt on every corner in the emblematic location of the "Casas de Santana".
The flower arrangements, the traditional dresses and costumes, the stalls with fruits and flowers, and above all the traditional folk music, in constant animation, are the reasons why this is one of the most remarkable events in this municipality.

From July 18th to 19th, the parish of Madalena do Mar, in the municipality of Ponta do Sol, organizes a festival honoring one of the most important and emblematic products of Madeiran agriculture: the Madeira banana.
Visit this sunny land and participate in the celebrations of this delicious fruit which, in Madeira, has an even more special flavor.

The Lapa Festival is a recent event that seeks to bring together, in the sunny village of Paul do Mar, locals, tourists and all those who want to savor the traditional snacks of the land, where grilled limpets are, without a doubt, the queens of the festival.
For three nights, the small fishing village dons the colors of the festivities to welcome various musical groups and local merchants, who make this festival truly delightful.

The cultural, musical, and gastronomic offerings, as well as water sports, are the driving force behind this initiative in the village of Porto Moniz.
The so-called "Sea Week" features a series of activities and games that take place during the day in the port and its natural pools, involving hundreds of locals of all ages.
At the end of each day throughout the week, a variety of gastronomic events are held in the food and drink stalls set up in the center of the village, with a stage also providing entertainment with major musical concerts.

Classics at Magnolia' is a living showcase where the best preserved classic cars of the region shine. A tribute to the automobile but also to the motorist, with the recreation of the fascinating atmosphere of the early 20th century.

The “Madeira Wine Rally”, is the largest racing event in the Region.
The Madeira Sports Club promotes the traditional, and now historic, Madeira Wine Rally, a sporting event that attracts many who are curious and passionate about motorsports, gathering along the regional roads to watch the cars pass by and see the skill of the pilots, a sporting event to be held between August,1st to 3rd.

Organized by the Casa do Povo da Camacha, the Camacha Art Festival is dedicated to the cultural traditions of this parish, a festival to be held between August 9th to 15th.

The event combines cuisine and entertainment in a festival filled with show cooking performances, dance performances and plenty of music, in order to let people know a bit more about the fishing activity in the picturesque bay of Câmara de Lobos and show the gastronomic potential of the tasty black scabbard fish.
There will be plenty of food and drink stalls at this festival.

This Festival is considered to be the main feast of popular devotion in the region, celebrated everywhere in the world where there are immigrants from Madeira, an occasion to be held between August 14th to 15th.
For two consecutive days, the picturesque and romantic parish of Monte is transformed into one of the liveliest places on the island, filled with food and beverage stalls and lots of musical entertainment.

The Harvest Festival aims to promote the grape varieties of this island. It takes place every year at the end of August or beginning of September.
The festival begins with the grape harvest and includes tasting the must and wine of Porto Santo.
Join the harvest, watch the grape treading in a traditional wine press, and taste the freshly squeezed grape juice!

For a week, the picturesque town of São Vicente, located on the North coast of Madeira, hosts the festivities in tribute to the municipality with the same name.
This initiative, which is already a well-known regional reference, offers an intense program of cultural and social events, in addition to plenty of cuisine and entertainment.
As in previous years, this event will also have the participation of some regional and national bands.

The Madeira Wine Festival is one of the island´s main tourist attractions that pays tribute to this precious nectar and its undeniable socioeconomic significance, event held between August 25th to September 8th.
Taking place during the grape harvest in late August, early September, this event aims to recreate the old traditions of Madeira, which were developed over centuries of labour in viticulture.
This event has been commemorated since the late seventies of the last century. It begins in Funchal and includes European Folklore Week, ornamentations, exhibitions and live portraits depicting wine and its crafts and light and traditional music performances.

The Wine Lounge aims to introduce tourists and locals to the Madeira Wine Region, allowing them to deepen their knowledge of Madeira Wine and wines with the Protected Designation of Origin "Madeirense" and Protected Geographical Indication "Terras Madeirenses" (white, red, sparkling and rosé wines from Madeira), from cultivation to bottling.

The Harvest Festival brings together thousands of visitors every year in the first half of September in the village of Estreito.
On the morning of Saturday, September 5th, attention turns to Estreito de Câmara de Lobos, where the Harvest Festival takes place.
There, on a Madeiran farm, the grape harvest takes place, followed by an ethnographic procession that includes the participation of a large number of folklore and ethnography groups.
After the procession, the grape treading is recreated, with free participation, in a traditional wine press, all surrounded by a festive atmosphere where there is no shortage of musical entertainment and regional gastronomy.

Living up to its nickname as the "land of wine" in Madeira, the Casa do Povo do Porto da Cruz organizes the annual Grape and Farmer's Festival.
This dynamic event aims to value farmers, seeking to promote new forms of marketing and production of grapes, as well as sharing knowledge about wine production in general.
Between September 5th and 6th, at the height of the grape harvest, this parish with a strong wine tradition invites everyone to participate in the festivities, which include, among many others, an ethnographic procession alluding to the customs of Porto da Cruz.

The festival takes place during the month of September, between the 21th and the 24th, in the city of Vila Baleira, and features a set of activities that seek to recall the epic Portuguese Discoveries.
The event includes the disembarking of Columbus, a sixteenth-century market with food, crafts, street performances, circus arts, theatrical representations and staging of peace and war ordeals common at the time, games of skill, weapons training, acrobatics and juggling, lots of music and exotic dances, ensuring permanent entertainment and a constant uproar among the various typical characters of this period .

From September 19th to 20th, the Pear Festival takes place. This annual rural event, organized by the Casa do Povo of Ponta do Pargo, brings together many farmers from various neighboring localities.
The farmers gather in the parish of Ponta do Pargo and transform the production and harvesting of pears into a lively and high-profile celebration.
This important commemoration also features a large and eye-catching musical program, which includes folk groups, regional bands, and even established national artists.

In commemoration of this important occasion, a few social and cultural activities and animation initiatives have been planned in the city centre of Funchal, such as free admission into some museums and gardens.
On the other hand, tourists will be greeted with flowers and gifts upon their arrival at Madeira’s International Airport, at the International Maritime Passanger terminal of the Port of Funchal and also in some official tourist offices.

With the aim of promoting the secular tradition that is behind the manufacture of cider, the village of Santo da Serra promotes between September, 28th and 29th a popular festivity as a tribute to the cider, a local popular beverage, in a festivity which guarantees lots of entertainment.
This event includes several cultural activities such as a small parade, the pressing of the apples, the cider making, musical performances and exhibitions related to this product.

This popular event aims to promote apples and their derivatives. The program includes entertainment, cuisine, folklore, tastings, and workshops.
